Brazil 2008 Day 1

Thanks St Paul for helping Ebenezer Lutheran Church spread God's word in a place that really needs it. Here's our friendly Avianca team...
Alex made a Bogota pilot friend on the flight.
Pastor Tom met Cairo and told him about our mission.
The group at MIA
Our group meeting on day one to plan our activities. We have a number of renovations to do at church and we'll be conducting 4 vacation bible school sessions for the favela and church children.

Pastor Nimbu and Fach with some of the church youth who've been helping us immensely.

Here's part of the church renovation, an access ramp for the sanctuary.

There's an outdoor storage area that we'll be converting to a place for the kids to play and perform for the church. The roof needs help...

Here's the other side of the ramp, we'll be painting pastor's house on the left and pouring a sidewalk between the ramp and house.

Here's Pastor Nimbu's house after we pressure washed it, it will look great when it's painted.

This storage room is toast... these walls will wish they were never born.
Here's another storage room on it's way to the history books. Look at that kick through brick and plaster... wow!
Demolition is our specialty, it's amazing what you can do with a sledgehammer!
Breaking down the walls wasn't so bad, but hauling away all of the bricks and rubble was a big job.

A game of soccer after breaking down the walls... The field looks great from last year's project.

Flavia remembers how to thumb wrestle.

The group at the end of the night... energized after an all night flight, fellowship and accomplishment.
